My biased advice....

What's a great "add- on" that will complement the bass amps above, or any bass amp? The number one item I'd recommend is a graphic equalizer pedal. This FX pedal allows you vary the amount of raising or lowering of bass,midrange and treble tones,in very selective frequency ranges,with the use of individual, dedicated,slide controls so you can see at a glance what range is being altered. The second item I'd recoomend would be a compressor.With a compressor you can level out your bass's signal,so the thicker top strings don't overpower the two thinner bottom strings.You can also use it when recording or playing live to keep the overall bass signal consistent ,regardless of whether you pick hard or soft.You won't have to worry about bottoming out the P.A mixer or pinning the recording meters deep into the red everytime you hit a low F. My biased advice....

It makes little sense having a great($$$) amp and guitar($$$$)and degrading the signal quality with a poorly made,inadequately shielded instrument cable that's prone to crackle,limiting the bass response and chopping off the high end response of your guitar.We make the best guitar cables around.Period.No magic pixie dusted cable jackets or kryptonite coated connectors..... We use high quality multi-strand copper based Digiflex and premium quality Canare cable,really soldered and assembled in our own shop with Neutrik connectors that are further reinforced with our own heat shrink sleeving to reduce stress where the cable exits the connector. Our stuff works so get your cables from us! |

If you're practicing in an apartment or late at night,the last thing you need is a cranky neighbour or significant other telling you turn down at 2 am,while your getting a groove on.That's why most practice and combo amps come equipped with a headphone jack(also referred to by many parents as the Sanity Saver Jack) Those little ear-bud/micro player headphones just won't do a proper job when used for practicing bass though.I'd recommend getting a pair of full size ear-piece,closed back headphones,that fully cover and enclose your ears for an accurate low end bass response from your bass,and amp.Also referred to as "cans" ins the studio,they kinda look like those "muffins" Princess Leia wore on the sides of her head in Star Wars.And yes,we carry those headphones in stock at our 1418 Pitt location. |

With most mid sized combo amps these days,playing the "big gig" and turning up the amp to "TEN" and hoping the amp survives the night just doesn't make sense.The smarter alternatives would be to either "mike the amp" and let the PA system do the work of spreading your guitar sound around the venue for you.If there's little room to work with on that tiny postage stamp stage or there's no "extra" mike in your budget,you can still connect a D.I. (Direct Injection)cable from your amp's line out jack into the PA rig.With the D.I. vcable method you don't have to fool around dealing with critical mike placement or worry about picking any extra unwanted stage noise.We can custom assemble any type of very high quality,reliable D.I. cable for you in either Hi-Z(high impedance) or Lo-Z versions in our shop.Don't know what you need? For you computer savvy guitar players,here's yet another way of getting better at improvising.With use of any simple PC recording software,record yourself playing several different sections of rhythm chord progressions,in as many keys and tempos as you can.Now, "dump" all those little "songs" onto your I-pod/mp3 player.Now,if your amp is equipped with a dedicated cd/mp3 input jack,start by making sure your MP3 player volume is down to zero,connect it to your amp,slowly turn up your player's volume to set it to just a little lower than your guitar's signal.Now,start playing and improvising solos over your "backing tracks".Remember,for the best audio signal quality from your music player,OUR shop can custom assemble a high quality, ,crackle free,reliable interconnecting cable for you at our shop. |
